Dr. Steven J. Binenbaum

Dr. Steven J. Binenbaum, FACS, FASMBS is fellowship trained and board-certified in general surgery. He is trained in minimally invasive gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery with over 15 years of experience. He completed general surgery residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. During training as a resident and a MIS fellow, he participated in multiple clinical research projects which were published in nationally recognized surgical journals. He was awarded Ellen M. Cosgrove, MD house staff research award, a Resident Achievement Award from Society of Laparo-endoscopic Surgeons and Dr. Cyril S. Arvanitis award upon graduation in 2007. He is a graduate of Stony Brook University, NY, with a Bachelor’s “cum laude” degree in Biochemistry and earned his medical degree from St. George’s University in the West Indies.

Following residency, Dr. Binenbaum gained additional training in Minimally Invasive Surgery in the field of Bariatric/Metabolic surgery at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, Columbia University in New York City. As a fellow, he worked to advance the field of Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) and was one of the first training surgeons to perform this type of surgery using a flexible endoscope. He also continued surgical research which resulted in multiple publications. Dr. Binenbaum became the first to perform single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) at Monmouth Medical Center.
