Gurdeep S. Matharoo, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABS-FPMBS

Dr. Gurdeep Matharoo is a fellowship trained and board-certified general surgery. He has advanced training in minimally invasive surgery utilizing both laparoscopic and robotic technologies. Dr. Matharoo is a native of Northern Virginia and has been treating patients in Monmouth County, New Jersey since 2008. He completed his medical education at the American University of the Caribbean in St. Maarten. He continued in a general surgery residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. Dr. Matharoo continued to receive additional training in minimally invasive surgery at Staten Island University Hospital in New York. During training Dr. Matharoo received multiple awards from teaching faculty, highest in-training exam scores and a Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparo-endoscopic Surgeons.

Dr. Matharoo has a strong dedication to instructing medical students and residents. He has been the surgical clerkship director at Monmouth Medical Center for Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Drexel University School of Medicine. Dr. Matharoo is also the Associate Program Director of the general surgery residency program. He is continually involved in education and performance improvement in hospital-wide initiatives. Dr. Matharoo is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Dr. Matharoo has authored multiple surgical research papers that have been published into prestigious medical journals and presented at local and national meetings. Dr. Matharoo served as an author and an editor for a first-of-its-kind textbook on revisional foregut surgery. He is a consultant for outside hospitals when they are searching for performance improvement.

Dr. Matharoo is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He is a council member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

His clinical interests lie in gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia surgery, splenic, and adrenal surgery. Dr. Matharoo is always accepting new patients.
